Temporary Fencing Around the Village Pond

Edgefield Parish Council has installed temporary fencing around the village pond to help prevent the spread of Crassula helmsii (New Zealand pygmyweed), a highly invasive non-native aquatic plant that is present within the pond.

Crassula can spread very easily on footwear, dog paws, bicycle tyres and other equipment, with even tiny fragments capable of establishing new infestations.

To help protect our local environment and other watercourses, we kindly ask that all residents and visitors:

– Please keep outside the fenced area.
– Do not enter the pond.
– Do not allow dogs to enter the pond or the fenced area.

The fencing will remain in place while the Parish Council works with ecological specialists and the relevant authorities to manage this issue.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping to protect Edgefield’s natural environment.
